If your first language is not English and you're 19+, this course is available to you at the Ross Walk Centre in Belgrave. It will help you to improve your knowledge of domestic and industrial sewing machines and garment making techniques. The course runs termly and you can join at any point in the term.
You will learn about health and safety in a textiles environment. You will learn how to use and maintain a sewing machine. You will also learn techniques to take measurements, follow a pattern, cut fabric and stitch garments. There is also an opportunity to learn how to use an overlocking machine.
There are no formal entry requirements. Your level of English will be assessed at the time of enrolment.
This course is aimed at supporting you to progress to other ESOL classes, or to a career or further study in Textiles and Fashion. Your tutor will advise you on future courses. You will have the opportunity to study at a higher level or to take classes in a different subject. Careers Information, advice, and guidance are available at Leicester College.
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to come into College if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study. For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short student details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
