Course Overview
This is a full-day course, running every Monday for 9 weeks from 9:30am- 3:00pm.
The course takes place at our St Margaret’s Campus and involves you bringing your own piece to restore and up-cycle, with the option of purchasing extra materials through the college. All other machinery and equipment is provided.
What You'll Learn
Year 1
You will learn useful upholstery skills and techniques by transforming an existing piece of small furniture from your home. Footstools, blanket boxes and dining room chair seats are all ideal pieces to up-cycle, as well as soft furnishings such as curtains and cushions.
You will be guided through every step of the process but please be aware, you will have to transport your piece of furniture to college at the start, and then from college once the course has ended.
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements other than being over the age of 19 and having a piece of furniture to restore or a soft furnishings project in mind.
How you will be assessed
At the start of your course you will decide with your tutor what your project will be. Throughout this course, there are no assessments, exams or coursework.

Tuition Fees (19+): £180.00
Additional Costs
The cost of the course is £180.00.
However you will not be required to pay a fee for this course if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits:
Universal Credit
JSA or ESA (Employment and Support Allowance Work Related Action Group)
There will be no fees if you earn less than £17.004.

Course and Career progression
This hobby course is designed as an introduction to the skills required to restore or up-cycle furniture. Upon completion you may wish to enrol again to hone your skills and restore a different piece or it might inspire you to look into enrolling onto one of our full-time fashion or design based programs.
What Happens Next
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to come into College if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.
For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short student details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
