Course Overview

If you wish to establish a career in the travel and tourism industry then this course is for you. You will have the opportunity to explore one of the world’s most dynamic and fast-growing industries.
This course is designed to give you a practical insight into the travel and tourism industry potentially leading to level 3 travel and tourism courses. You will gain a wide range of knowledge within this qualification, enabling you to work successfully in a range of jobs in the travel and tourism industry.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

This is a practical, work-related course and involves the completion of projects, assignments and activities. You will study modules in customer service, selling skills, UK travel and tourism destinations and travel planning. The course also offers a tutorial system to help with your work and planning. You may want to find a related part-time job, which will give you an insight into modern business methods which you could then use for your work experience.

If you are aged 16 to 18, you will be enrolled on a study programme. This will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven’t already achieved a grade 4 or above.
You will take part in activities that help you to develop your skills, such as building your character and confidence. This will help you to live well and move into your chosen career.

If you are 16-19 years old these activities will be timetabled as will work experience and placement. You can also choose to take part in other activities.
For other age groups, activities will be tailored to your needs.

Entry Requirements

Entry to this course requires one reference. You should demonstrate 90% attendance in your last place of study or work. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 3 (D) or above is required.

Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.

How you will be assessed

There will be a variety of assessment methods such as report writing, leaflets, PowerPoint presentations, role plays and displays.

Course and Career progression

On successful completion of the course with a merit grade, plus a minimum of 90% attendance, you may progress onto a level 3 travel and tourism course. This course will build on your foundation of skills and knowledge enabling you to work in a variety of jobs within the travel and tourism industry.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website, or if your school uses the Positive Steps @16 (PS16) application system please apply through this and speak to your careers advisor if you are unsure. You will need details of your qualifications, a reference, and a personal statement to complete your application. Once your application has been successfully processed, you will be sent a conditional offer and be invited to a welcome event at the college to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
