Travel and Tourism BTEC 90 Credit Diploma level 3

Course Overview

If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven t already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
This is the first year of an extended two year study programme equivalent to three A levels that is designed to provide you with the opportunity to study a wide range of Travel and Tourism subjects. The course includes a variety of enrichment opportunities including guest speakers, day trips and also residential trips which are all closely linked to the course content.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

The course can be studied over one year as a qualification in its own right (90 Credit Diploma) or learners can return for the second year of the programme and will complete the Extended Diploma. Year One subjects include Investigating Travel and Tourism, the Business of Travel and Tourism, the UK as a Destination, Customer Service in Travel and Tourism, and European Travel Destinations.

Year 2

The second year or your programme will include units such as Retail Travel, Long Haul Travel, Marketing, Specialist Tourism and Preparing for Employment in the Travel Industry. You will also have the opportunity over the course to study an extra qualification in either Cabin Crew or Resort Representatives.

Entry Requirements

Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90 attendance. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4 (C) or above is required a level 2 Diploma in Travel and Tourism is desirable but not essential.

Additional Costs

£The additional cost will cover all day trip fees. There will be an opportunity to take part in a residential trip for an additional charge, £300 approximately. Students may be able to seek assistance with fees from Student Services, subject to conditions.


If the course is longer than one year the total fees are for the first year only and further fees may apply in future years. All fees are based on a ‘home’ learner status. Please contact us for information on overseas fees.

If you are aged 19 or over there is no government funding available for this course. However you may be eligible to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan for the course fee.

Course and Career progression

Successful completion of the two year programme will allow you to progress onto the Foundation Degree in Tourism and Events Management at Leicester College or apply for any other relevant HE University courses. Alternatively you could seek employment within the travel industry. We have very successful progression into employment with former students working for Swissport, Thomas Cook, Premier Inn and Jet2 Airlines.
