Course Overview
This one day course is designed to help various industries, organisations, and businesses better understand the challenges and needs related to sustainability, pollution (water and land), and waste management. The programme will inform and support organisations and businesses in determining the appropriate environmental actions and level of involvement required to address current issues in sustainability, pollution, and waste management.
What You'll Learn
Year 1
Over the full-day programme topics will include:
– Sustainability and environmental management, purpose, aims and objectives
– Eco-Management Auditing Scheme (EMAS) and levels of engagement
– Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and embodied energy
– Waste management and handling, including hazardous waste
– Waste management legislation and guidance
– Water resources and treatment
– Water pollution, including eutrophication and thermal pollution
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this course, but it is designed for adults aged 19+ who want to enhance their knowledge and skills in green practices within their organisation or business.
How you will be assessed
A short online assessment quiz will be given to check your overall understanding of the topic. The assessment will use multiple-choice questions.

The course aims to help students gain a better understanding of sustainability, pollution, and waste management, and be able to share this knowledge with their company or organisation to improve its sustainability and environmental practices. The course also links to other full-time higher and further education programmes at Leicester College, specifically in the construction and engineering disciplines.
