Are you interested in, or considering a career in building and construction? This course will explore and help develop your knowledge and set you off on a career pathway into the construction sector. This course will help you build a good foundation, giving you flexibility and choice to personalise your program of learning to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

The programme offers you a great deal of flexibility, so you can shape what you learn at your own pace.

Here’s how it works:
The course is made up of several units, each worth several credits. To achieve the certificate, you would need to gain a total of 15 credits.

You will need to achieve all the mandatory units and 5 credits from the option units to obtain your qualification.

Mandatory Units
– Principles of building construction, information and communication, worth 6 credits
– – Working in construction and building, worth 3 credits
– Introduction to environmental sustainability, worth 1 credit

Optional units – you will need 5 credits from any of the options below:
– Health and safety in the workplace, worth 3 credits
– Job seeking skills, worth 3 credits
– Employment rights, contracts and pay, worth 3 credits
– Employment skills, worth 3 credits
– Internet safety for IT Users, worth 3 credits
– Building confidence and self-esteem, work 3 credits
– Interpersonal skills, worth 3 credits
– Introduction to construction and building industries, worth 2 credits
– Bullying and harassment in the workplace, worth 1 credit

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, however, a reasonable level of literacy is required.

How you will be assessed

This qualification is assessed by short answer questions and multiple-choice exams.
