Course Overview

This exciting 7-week course (for 19+adults only) aims to introduce and advance individual’s skills in the understanding and application of the screen printing process. Applicants will be encouraged to explore a range of imagery and materials whilst developing their technical and artistic skills.
The course will enable you to improve and develop practical skills, including setting up screen print machinery and equipment.
Skills learned throughout the programme of study can be further utilized in more advanced work.
Alongside this introduction to the print, the course is designed to enable a return to education and prepare for further learning or employment, building your confidence and looking after your health and well-being.
The course takes place at our St Margaret’s campus in our extensive Screen Print workshop.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

Throughout the seven-week programme, you will be instructed in various aspects of screen printing including:
Set up of machinery and equipment and the production of screen-printed artwork
Separation of layers and colours and consideration of composition and format
The transfer of stencils onto screens and the printing of single and multiple images
The printing of mono and multi colour image
You will also be guided regarding Health and Safety in a Printmaking workshop

Entry Requirements

No previous experience is necessary; just an interest in the subject

How you will be assessed

There are no assessments or exams. Your tutor will support and guide you through the course and help you to develop your skills through one-to-one feedback.

Course and Career progression

This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to progress onto other areas of practical crafts. You will have opportunities to progress onto other practical art-based courses run at the college or you may wish to take your experience forward into designing and producing your own work at home, utilising the skills you have developed.
This course may also provide a basis for your progression onto Access to Higher Education programme.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.
