Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching is a certification program for entry-level network engineers that helps maximize your investment in foundational networking knowledge and increase the value of your employer’s network. This course is for the first of four modules that lead to the CCNA certification. This There is a emphasis on practical activities using live lab equipment (routers, switches) in order to gain the practical knowledge needed in the industry. It is an 10 week course which includes taught sessions, live labs and blended learning.
This is a full cost course. There is no fee remission available and you cannot apply for an advanced learner loan to pay for your fees.
What You'll Learn
This course is suitable for those who wish to understand the principles of computer networks whilst developing good practice and skills. The course will provide you with an opportunity to practice configuring computer networks. Some of the topics you will cover include:
Basic Switching Concepts and Configuration
Access Control Lists (ACLs)
Network Address Translation and IPv4
A good understanding of IT systems with either relevant work experience or a level 2 qualification such as the CompTIA A+ or Cisco IT Essentials. Other certification such as CompTIA Network+, Security+ or a keen interest in pursuing a career in networking. However, no skill or knowledge in this area is assumed but basic numeracy is expected and you should be confident in the use of a computer to access the resources that will be available.
How you will be assessed
Assessment is by an online end of course exam set by the Cisco Academy. You will receive the CCNA R S 2 – Routing and Switching Essentials component assessment certificate. Each session is a comprehensive mix of instructor led tuition, hands on practical labs in the classroom and access to the online curriculum and assessment. The session starts with a presentation and then you have the opportunity to use the live or simulated lab equipment to practice curriculum content. Practical work is a major part of the course and requires regular attendance and practice.

For the full CCNA qualification, you are required to sit and pay for the CISCO CCNA vendor assessment through a PearsonVUE testing centre. Exam fees to be confirmed.
