The BTEC Extended Certificate in Uniformed Public Services is a one-year programme that introduces you to the service industry and develops the practical skills necessary for gaining employment in a range of uniformed public services. You will be given the opportunity to develop your theoretical knowledge in a range of subjects, whilst also having ample activity to interact with the various different public services.
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking
GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven’t already
achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience
placement and an employability programme.
What You'll Learn
Throughout the course you will study a range of units such as: the Role and Work of Public Services; Citizenship; Sport and Recreation; Expedition Skills; and Responding to Incidents. There is also a requirement that you undertake work experience with a relevant employer. You will also undertake a practical expedition, in addition to a number of other relevant visits.
Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 3 (D) or above is required, plus 2 additional GCSE subjects at grade 3 (D) would be an advantage.
Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.
How you will be assessed
Assessment will take place in a variety of methods, with some units being external exams whilst others are practical assessment, assignments, presentations etc.
