Property Maintenance Operative Intermediate Apprenticeship – P0233

Property maintenance operatives ensure that buildings are kept in good condition by keeping electrical, plumbing, plant, safety systems and equipment in working order. They undertake preventative and reactive maintenance on buildings to maintain the appearance of the interior and exterior appropriately.

Job roles include maintenance assistant; property engineer, facilities assistant, maintenance engineer, maintenance manager, maintenance technician, caretaker, janitor, multi-skilled technician and premises manager.

An apprenticeship is a job with training. You will be employed at least 30 hours a week, with 80% of your working hours in your day-to-day role, and the remaining 20% of your time engaged in training or study.

Year 1

On-programme is the learning phase for apprentices to pick up the skills, knowledge and behaviours set in the standard. During the first year of the apprenticeship, you will be working towards subjects in health and safety, roles and responsibilities, and understanding the knowledge elements of the apprenticeship standard.

You will be assessed on your knowledge and understanding using written and oral questioning based on your work-based processes and tasks. On the job learning will include skills learnt in the workplace.

Year 2

You will have been assessed on your knowledge and behaviours and will now progress this to prove competency. Practical skills will be assessed in the workplace and evidenced using different assessment methods. You will learn various practical skills including, tiling, painting, carpentry, bricklaying, electrical and plumbing tasks. As well as internal and external building maintenance. These skills will be assessed in the workplace and also developed at college.

Apprentices will evidence this in a portfolio of evidence that shows their competence and behaviours, which will be verified by a qualified assessor and graded pass or fail. A short research assignment that is based on the learners’ findings in their industry and workplace will be completed, which is graded distinction, pass or fail. The portfolio will be collated, finalised and signed off.

Level 1 diploma in construction, grade A-C in Maths and English GCSE.

EPA is the final stage that an apprentice goes through to complete their apprenticeship. The apprentice must demonstrate their learning to an independent end-point assessor and the overall grade available is distinction, merit, pass or fail (for resits the maximum grade is a pass).

Assessment events for this standard are:
Synoptic knowledge test online- multiple choice that counts towards 50% of the overall score for this qualification. A professional discussion- this provides an opportunity for further evidence to be gathered or explored in more detail. The conversation will cover the specific knowledge, competencies or behaviours as set out in the standard. This contributes 25% to the overall score for this qualification.

Synoptic practical- one-day practical where apprentices complete a selection of maintenance tasks in a controlled environment. It tests their knowledge, competencies and behaviours against a pre-defined project. It is 25% of the overall score for this qualification.

A professional discussion- this provides an opportunity for further evidence to be gathered or explored in more detail. The conversation will cover the specific knowledge, competencies or behaviours as set out in the standard. This contributes 25% to the overall score for this qualification.

Must wear PPE at college and in the workshop. If for any reason, you do not pass this apprenticeship, you may be required to cover the costs of the end point assessment.
