This is a challenging and rewarding Level 2 one year course for adults (19+) who are seeking employment in the plumbing industry. The course is a stepping stone to a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at Level 2 which is the required level to be recognised as a qualified tradesperson. To complete the route to industry certification, you will complete this course and can then top up to an NVQ level 2 diploma through additional training. To do this you need to be able to gain work experience with a qualified professional who can oversee your work. The course runs in two groups based on numbers. One group attends on a Tuesday and Wednesday, and the other on a Wednesday and Thursday.
There are ten units: health and safety in building services engineering; electrical principles and processes for building services engineering; scientific principles for domestic industrial and commercial plumbing; common plumbing processes; cold water systems; domestic hot water systems; drainage systems; sanitation; central heating systems; and understanding how to communicate with others within building services engineering. Delivery is undertaken in classrooms for theoretical studies and bespoke workshops for practical skills development and assessments.
Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 3 (D) or above is required. Basic maths will be required in the form of measuring and marking out, plus working with formula in order to perform associated calculations. Candidates will be required to compile a portfolio of evidence. All applicants will be required to complete an initial assessment to determine suitability for this course.
You will be assessed throughout each unit. In addition you will have to undertake practical assessments and you will require a week off work to do this.

You will have to purchase some basic equipment to support your learning and protect you in the workshop. This costs of this course may be subject to change dependent on funding allocations for the academic year you choose to study.There may be an additional examination registration fee of approximately £140.00 if applicable. Re-sits for applicable examinations are chargeable.

You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study. For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short learner details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
