This is a taster one lesson course of three hours for anyone who is interested in computer hardware and disassembling a PC. In this lab, you will disassemble a desktop computer using safe lab procedures and the proper tools.
The goal of this lab is to separate the components and practice using tools properly. The separated components can be used in a later lab for assembly.
Leicester College is a Cisco Academy and this course is a taster of the Cisco Network Academy Computer Hardware Basics.
What You'll Learn
Disassemble a Computer. This lab does not include removing the motherboard, CPU, and cooling device from the computer due to the replacement cost of these items but will allow the removal of these components from spare or broken computers that are kept in the classroom for part identification and demonstration.
This lab will cover the following
Parts Removal: Recommended Tools, Safety glasses, Antistatic wrist strap, Antistatic mat, Flat head screwdrivers and Phillips head screwdrivers.
Removal of the Hard Drive, Optical Drive, Power Supply, Adapter Cards, Memory Modules, Data Cables.
A basic understanding of how to use a computer is and to be able to use a mouse and software. A keen interested to fix things and problem solve.

There are no assessment in thios taster session.

Course and Career progression
Once you have completed this taster session you can then apply for the C8041 Cisco Computer Hardware Basics which is a 6 week course that is blended which includes online resrouces that you can also work from home. On this course you will learn everything to learn the basics of computer hardware and discover the components of PCs, laptops and mobile devices.
What Happens Next
You will be contacted to come into college if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.
For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short student details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
