Course Overview
This course is a stepping stone into a career in travel and tourism, introducing you to a wide range of industry areas such as working in hotels, hospitality, and other travel and tourism industries. You will learn all of the key principles of the travel sector, preparing you to explore various avenues of work or to progress onto the next level in education.
What You'll Learn
Year 1
This course offers a diverse overview of the travel industry, as well as essential areas of hospitality, including how tourism companies plan, sales, promotion and the importance of great customer service. You will also gain experience in planning trips for specific types of customers, learning about personal effectiveness and how to manage finances within the industry.
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven’t already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
Entry Requirements
Entry to this course requires one reference and a GCSE in both English and maths at grade 1/2 (E/F/G) or above.
It is also desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance.
Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.
How you will be assessed
Assessments will involve a combination of report writing, leaflets, displays and presentations. You will also be expected to take part in an assessed role-play exercise.

Course and Career progression
Upon successfully gaining a merit at level 1 and passing your Functional Skills, you will be able to apply for a Diploma in Travel and Tourism NCFE level 2. Upon completion, you will be able to enter employment in a range of jobs including trainee travel agent, hospitality, or a tourist information advisor.
What Happens Next
Apply online via the College website, or if your school uses the Positive Steps @16 (PS16) application system please apply through this and speak to your careers advisor if you are unsure. You will need details of your qualifications, a reference, and a personal statement to complete your application. Once your application has been successfully processed, you will be sent a conditional offer and be invited to a Welcome Event at the College to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
