Our level 1 Diploma is designed to teach you about different roles across the motor vehicle industry and develop your skills across a variety of specialist areas, in preparation to continue your studies or kick-start a career in this industry.

The course involves studying both the theory and practical aspects of mechanical repair including the following units:

Our facilities host very well-equipped modern vehicle mechanical repair workshops offering advanced tools, equipment, and repair techniques that enable you to gain a wide range of skills essential for the workplace.
Entry Requirements
You must be 19 plus to enrol onto this course and it also requires one reference.
A suitable entry level 3 qualification or motor vehicle maintenance experience is desirable but not essential. It is also desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance at your last place of study or work and have a minimum of level 2 Functional Skills in English and maths.
Consideration will be given to applicants who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications, but can demonstrate relevant experience. An interview will be required to ascertain prior achievement.
How you will be assessed
For each of the 10 core units, you will develop essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Every 8 weeks you will undertake a series of practical (workshop based) and knowledge assessments, followed by online testing. Once you are registered, you can access all associated assessment material via MS Teams

Additional Costs
You are expected to obtain personal protective equipment (PPE) to be worn during all practical sessions. During the Induction period, you will be allocated a locker to store your PPE. Basic requirements are steel toe cap safety boots, and plain navy or black overalls (boiler suit style only). You can purchase your PPE from wherever you wish, however during enrolment you will be given details of some local companies who supply many of our students. The cost of the required PPE would be expected to cost between £30 and £45.

This course is an essential first step for students considering a career in the automotive industry.
You may choose to continue in education and progress onto the level 2 programs such as the Light Vehicle Studies Diploma or Motor Sports Diplomas, dependent on meeting entry criteria, or go straight into a job in the motor trade and begin your career.
What Happens Next
Apply online via the College website, or speak to the Leicester colleges student services team if you are unsure. You will need details of your qualifications, a reference, and a personal statement to complete your application. Once your application has been successfully processed, you will be sent a conditional offer and be invited to a welcome event at the College to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
