What You'll Learn

Year 1

Functional skills in maths at level 1 and level 2 are designed to develop your ability to represent situations using mathematics, analyse calculations, solve problems, and interpret mathematics to explain situations. These qualifications allow you to demonstrate a sound grasp of the underpinning skills and basics of mathematical skills appropriate to the level, and apply mathematical thinking to solve simple problems in familiar situations.

Entry Requirements

You must have strong underpinning skills at either level 1 or level 2 but require the development of your functional skills. You must be able to attend every day of teaching and be available for the exam date. You must also be able to work independently for up to 3 hours per day during the course.

You must be 19 or over on 31 August 2023, and not already hold an equivalent qualification.

Course placement will be dependent on an informal interview and initial assessment results. You may be signposted to a more suitable course on completion of your assessment.

This course requires full attendance.

How you will be assessed

Final assessment is an exam at the end of the course. You will be assessed on calculator and non-calculator skills. These are externally assessed exams and you would normally receive your result within 4 weeks.
