Course Overview

This course is designed for all abilities and will cover the fundamentals of life drawing, combining both technical drawing skills with observational skills. We will focus on recording the elements that make up the human form.
During the course you will have the opportunity to draw models from life as well as from photo references. You will be introduced to a variety of drawing techniques and materials such as traditional drawing with graphite and charcoal as well as more experimental drawing techniques working with mixed media collage, ink and pastels.
The aim of this course is to help you establish and/or develop a competent and responsive life drawing practice.
Life drawing is accessible to all and provides a fantastic opportunity to improve your drawing skills and acquire knowledge of anatomy such as proportion, scale, and gesture in a supportive and relaxed environment.

You will study with an industry specialist. The College has excellent Art studios, current IT suites and the latest Adobe software for you to successfully learn in a friendly adult environment.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

During the course you will learn to hone your hand-eye coordination and observational skills, in order to draw and record the human form accurately when working from a live model. Over the duration of the course students will learn a variety of drawing skills using different mediums. They will also gain a better understanding of human anatomy, which will help build their confidence in life drawing skills.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, however having some formal knowledge and a keen interest in art, drawing or visual recording would be advantageous.

How you will be assessed

You will be introduced to techniques through group demonstrations and benefit from individual feedback. There is no formal assessment but you will be set personal targets from your tutor.

This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to progress onto other areas of practical crafts. You will have opportunities to progress onto more advanced courses, or you may wish to take your experience forward into designing and producing your own work at home, utilising the skills you have developed.

What Happens Next

You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.
For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short learner details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
