Course Overview

The course is run from City Skills Centre, each Tuesday 9.45am to 12.15pm for 9 weeks.

Do you own a laptop or a smartphone but aren’t getting the most out of them? Or are you considering buying one but don’t know where to start? Come along to this course where you can learn about apps, browse the internet from the palm of your hand, download pictures, videos and much more. Please bring your own smartphone, or if you prefer, you can use the laptops provided.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

You will learn the basic skills in how to use technical devices/equipment. Wherever possible we will also use comparisons to your own devices, so that you will be able to adapt the same principles at home.

This course will help you to:

• Understand the difference between PC’s, laptops and mobile devices.
• Be able to connect your device to the Internet and know the difference between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
• Be able to use a laptop.
• Understand the different types of apps and know how to download them.
• Be able to take pictures and videos on your device and share them with others.
• Using search engines safely and effectively and staying safe online; virus protection, removing browsing history etc.

Entry Requirements

No previous experience is needed to enrol on this course. You just need to be over 19.

How you will be assessed

At the start of the course, you will decide with your tutor your personal targets for the course. Your targets will be unique to you. If you have met your targets by the end of the course, you will receive a certificate of attendance.

Tuition fees

Tuition Fees (19+): £90.00

Additional Costs

The cost of the course is £90.00. However, you will not be required to pay a fee for this course if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits:

– Universal Credit
– JSA or ESA (Employment and Support Allowance Work Related Action Group)

There will be no fees if you earn less than £20,319.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to come into College if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.

For enrol and pay for courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short student details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
