This is a one-year top up study programme for students who already hold a 90 credit diploma that will develop your technical skills and prepare you for a career in the field of IT, web design, computer networks or associated industries. The course involves both academic study and practical work, you will conduct research, analyse, construct systems and evaluate your work with assignments. During the course you will develop skills in the use industry-standard software packages including visual studio and Adobe Creative Suite.
What You'll Learn
During the programme you will study a variety of modules including e-commerce, programming, website production, computer systems, games platforms, digital graphics and networking. These modules will help you develop the skills and knowledge required to develop a career in computing. In addition to your studies you will also receive guest lectures from experts working in the computing industry.
You are required to have 4 GCSEs grade 4 (C) or above to include English and maths. If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven’t already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19, who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.
The course also requires you to have one reference and it is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance at your last place of work or study.
How you will be assessed
Assessment are completed in coursework assignments. You will need to evidence in your work that your skills and understanding are sufficient to pass each unit or achieve higher grades.

If you are aged 19 or over there is no government funding available for this course. However you may be eligible to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan for the course fee.
Course and Career progression
On successful completion of this top-up study programme you will have BTEC qualification, equivalent to three A levels. With this course you may decide to progress onto a higher education course at university, or study further at Leicester College with Higher National Diploma. There are also employment opportunities in trainee positions within programming, IT support, network administration and support.

You will need details of your qualifications and employment history, a reference, and a personal statement to complete your application. Once your application has been successfully processed, you will be sent a conditional offer and be invited to a Welcome Event at the College to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
