Design for those seeking employment in the travel, tourism or aviation industry this course is perfect for those who love the idea of travelling the world, meeting new people, and seeing different places whilst you kickstart your career.

Over the one year, you will have the opportunity to gain work experience with a placement, build your confidence and personal skills and take part in activities and trips which will give you insight into the industry.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

The course is studied over one year, and upon completion, you will be awarded a level 3 Foundation Diploma. The units that you will study during this programme are the UK travel and tourism industry, customer service and meeting customer needs, cabin crew, commercial operations of airports and airlines, and hospitality in travel and tourism.

If you are aged 16 to 18, you will be enrolled on a study programme. This will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven’t already achieved a grade 4 or above.

If you are 16-19 years old these activities will be timetabled as will work experience and placement. You can also choose to take part in other activities. For other age groups, activities will be tailored to your needs.

Entry Requirements

Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4 (C) or above is required or have gained a Level 2 Diploma in Travel and Tourism. International qualifications will also be considered.

Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.

How you will be assessed

There are a variety of assessment methods which are used such as live projects, report writing, creating displays, PowerPoint presentations and role play assessment.

Course and Career progression

Successful completion of this course will give you several options. You may have been offered a job by various companies. Alternatively, you could progress onto the Foundation Degree in Tourism and Events Management or other relevant qualifications. Finally, you may decide to pursue an apprenticeship within the tourism and hospitality industry.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website, or if your school uses the Positive Steps @16 (PS16) application system please apply through this and speak to your careers advisor if you are unsure. You will need details of your qualifications and employment history, a reference, and a personal statement to complete your application. Once your application has been successfully processed, you will be sent a conditional offer and be invited to a Welcome Event at the College to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
