This non-accredited course runs from St Margaret's Campus every Tuesday from 10:00 – 12:30 for 9 weeks starting on 10 September and finishing on 12 November 2024. This course is for beginners and those that want to learn the basics. Each week you will be guided through a small sewing project for example, creating your own needle case, piped pin cushion and making a zipper purse. This is a tutor-led course and is designed to develop the use of the sewing machine and to use the various feet and attachments that come with it.
During this course, you will learn: - Health and safety, safe working practice regulations - Introduction to sewing zips and buttonholes - Sewing and identifying basic seams and hems - Identifying and using an assortment of machine feet - Learn to sew a variety of skills and techniques This course is designed as an introduction to the skills required to undertake small and simple sewing projects. Each week you will develop your your confidence and knowledge.
This course is designed as an introduction to sewing skills and is suitable for those students who have not yet completed a sewing or garment making course before. You must be aged 19+ and be able to complete a short workbook on a weekly basis with the help of your tutor.
There are no formal assessments, exams or coursework. Your tutor will informally assess your progress each week. You will receive a certificate of course completion based on your progress in class and attendance.

The cost of the course is £90.00. However, you will not be required to pay a fee for this course if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits: - Universal Credit - JSA or ESA (Employment and Support Allowance Work Related Action Group) There will be no fees if you earn less than £25,000.
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required or sent a conditional offer according to the course's entry requirements. You will then be invited to enrol for your chosen course.
