Course Overview

This is a classroom-based, one day course is offered at regular intervals year-round (50 weeks of the year including non-term times). This accredited qualification is suitable for you if you are 19+ and interested in the legalisation surrounding safeguarding children.

This is an ideal opportunity if you are working with children and the qualification is often a requirement by employers, if you are successful will gain a nationally recognised qualifications that will support your job applications and help you gain employment in many social and educational environments.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

During this programme of learning, you will take part in a variety of different learning activities including supported online learning, classroom teaching, discussion and watching short media clips where you will be able to achieve the following skills:
1) Understand the needs and rights of children
2) Understand the signs and symptoms associated with possible child abuse
3) Understand the importance of responding professionally to a child’s disclosure of abuse
4) Understand the safeguards an organisation must have in place to protect and promote the welfare of children
5) Understand the importance of confidentiality and information sharing in relation to child protection
6) Understand ways in which workers and organisations can protect themselves and work safely with children

Entry Requirements

This is a level 1 course and although there are no formal entry requirements, a reasonable level of literacy is expected i.e. you can write and speak to make yourself understood.

How you will be assessed

You will complete a variety of short practical and written tasks that will be formally assessed by your tutor to enable you to create a portfolio of evidence.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements of the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course.
