This course is designed for students wishing to gain an introduction to the basic skills and principles of machine turning of metals using lathes. The course will introduce students to the practical skills of turning and will appeal to a range of people including hobbyists to those wishing to move into a new career pathway.
During the six week evening programme learners will be introduced to the basic functions and operation skills for turning metal using lathes, this will include: •Workshop health and safety (a requirement for the safe use of machine tools in a workshop environment) •Facing techniques •Turning Diameters •Production Tapers •Drilling and Boring •Producing internal and external threads
The course is open to all students over the age of 19 who can demonstrate the ability to complete the course.
There are no formal assessments on this course.

You will need to provide your own safety boots and overalls as a requirement of working in a machine workshop environment
