This exciting course aims to introduce and advance people’s skills in the production of decorative and usable items made using various types of leather. You will be encouraged to explore a diverse and exciting range of materials whilst developing your pattern and making skills. Alongside this, you will be instructed in the use of relevant hand tools and machinery, as well as improving your practical skills, which can be further utilised in more advanced work.
What You'll Learn
Throughout the ten-week programme, you will be instructed in various aspects of leather craft. These will include.
1. Types of Leather, its production and its uses.
2. Pattern production for prototype products.
3. Skiving techniques by machine and by hand.
4. Stitching operations by machine and by hand.
5. Edge Treatments.
6. Finishing and decorative techniques.
7. Health and Safety in leather crafts
No previous experience is necessary, just an interest in the subject.
How you will be assessed
There are no assessments or exams. Your tutor will support and guide you through the course and help you develop your skills through one to one feedback.

No additional costs.

Course and Career progression
This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to progress onto other areas of practical crafts. You will have opportunities to progress onto more advanced courses, or you may wish to take your experience forward into designing and producing your own work at home, utilising the skills you have developed.
