Course Overview
This non-accredited course runs from City Skills Centre, each Monday, 10:00 – 12:30 for 9 weeks, starting on 9 September and finishing on 11 November 2024.
This is a beginner’s course and during this course you will learn to follow a simple pattern using basic stitches, to create a range of textured square motifs.
You will be required to bring your own materials to each session.
To make the most of this course you will be expected to practice your crochet skills at home.
What You'll Learn
Year 1
During this course, you will learn:
– Hold hook and yarn to get the correct tension
– Choose crochet hooks and yarn appropriate for a project
– Follow simple patterns/charts in UK/US terminology
– Work basic stitches (ch, dc, tr, ss)
– Count stitches
– Work in rows and in the round
– Combine stitches to create a range of textures and patterns
Using these skills, you will be able to crochet a range of square motifs which can be joined to make a blanket, cushion cover or project of your choice.
Entry Requirements
This course is designed as an introduction to crochet and is suitable for those who have never held a hook and yarn or crocheted before.
You must be aged 19+ and be able to complete a short workbook on a weekly basis with the help of your tutor.
How you will be assessed
There are no formal assessments, exams or coursework. Your tutor will informally assess your progress each week.
You will receive a certificate of course completion based on your progress in class and attendance.

Additional Costs
The cost of the course is £90.00. However, you will not be required to pay a fee for this course if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits:
– Universal Credit
– JSA or ESA (Employment and Support Allowance Work Related Action Group)
There will be no fees if you earn less than £25,000.

What Happens Next
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required or sent a conditional offer according to the course’s entry requirements. You will then be invited to enrol for your chosen course.
