Course Overview

This non-accredited course runs from City Skills Centre, each Monday, 12:30pm to 3pm for 9 weeks, starting on 9 September and finishing on 11 November 2024.

This is a beginner’s course where you will learn how to create products to sell using air dry clay. You will also learn the basics of selling your products online and face-to-face.

This course is also suitable for those who already have an idea for a product to sell.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

During this course, you will learn:

– Understand health and safety and safe working practice regulations
– Basic techniques for creating clay products
– How to sell your products online and face-to-face effectively
– Pricing and packaging costs and establishing a selling price
– Seller regulations and legislation
– Use modelling tools, cutters and equipment
– Use your creative skills to create unique products

This is a tutor led course. However, students can choose their own project in week 8 and 9.

Entry Requirements

This course is designed as an introductory course and no previous skills or experience is required.

You must be aged 19+ and be able to complete a short workbook on a weekly basis with the help of your tutor.

How you will be assessed

There are no formal assessments, exams or coursework. Your tutor will informally assess your progress each week.    

You will receive a certificate of course completion based on your progress in class and attendance.

Total Fees: £90.00

Additional Costs

The cost of the course is £90.00. However, you will not be required to pay a fee for this course if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits:

– Universal Credit
– JSA or ESA (Employment and Support Allowance Work Related Action Group)

There will be no fees if you earn less than £25,000.

You can only complete this course once.

Once you have completed this course, you may progress onto a variety of the other adult education courses.

Your tutor will advise and discuss the various progression routes available to you. You can also access the College’s Careers Team to support your progression.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required or sent a conditional offer according to the course’s entry requirements. You will then be invited to enrol for your chosen course.
