Course Overview
Leicester College has a long history of teaching digital printing and online editing and publishing courses. This Adobe Photoshop course will introduce you to the basic tools, techniques, and processes in photo retouching and photo montaging. It is primarily for those who have limited knowledge of Photoshop but are interested in personal, professional or design use.
Particularly beneficial for anyone 19+ who are seeking employment and who wishes to improve their confidence and become motivated to take on new challenges.
What You'll Learn
Year 1
The course will cover an introduction to basic tools and options within Adobe Photoshop including palettes and windows, view menu and custom palettes; resolution for different products including print, screen; colour modes for print and screen; basic adjustments, tone, shadows, highlights and colour; basic transformations, scaling, rotating, flipping, perspective; retouching: patching, healing, cloning, sharpening, dodging and burning; masking and montaging.
You will cover the theory and basic application of the above tools to resolve a range of digital image problems.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, however, a reasonable level of literacy is expected i.e. you can write and speak to make yourself understood. It would be useful to be able to use a keyboard although support is available. If you have any concerns regarding your literacy level or IT skills, please contact us.
How you will be assessed
There is no formal assessments, only a series of formative exercises and tasks. With this course, it’s possible a group exhibition can be arranged.

There are no additional costs for this course however, a memory stick, portable hard drive or cloud space would be useful.

Course and Career progression
This is a basic course for designers, photographers, hobbyists, or enthusiasts with potential to lead you onto an advanced Adobe Photoshop course. On completion of this course, this could boost your job prospects onto roles such as junior, part-time, or full-time graphic design or digital arts courses or junior graphic design work, or photographic editing and retouching.
The course can also combine with other Adobe courses at Leicester College including the Adobe Illustrator and digital photography, as well as Light Room.
What Happens Next
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to come into College if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.
For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short student details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
