This course would be perfect for you if you have an interest in the latest ICT technologies including hardware and software. If you like understanding how computers work, enjoy programming, and developing products, then this course is for you. During this study programme you will have the opportunity to be the creator and producer of IT technology products and systems. Across this one-year programme you will have the opportunity to study a wide range of ICT subjects. This course looks to develop your skills in an area that is fast developing. Future jobs will also desire/require a good understanding of new technologies. If you are aged 16 to 18, you will be enrolled on a study programme. This will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will take part in activities that help you to develop your personal skills, such as building your character and confidence. This will help you to live well and move into your chosen career. If you are 16-19 years old these activities will be timetabled as will work experience and placement. You can also choose to take part in other activities. For other age groups, activities will be tailored to your needs.
As part of this course, you will study the rapidly developing world of information technology. Studying a wide range of modules, you will cover: 1. The online world - looking at social media, real-time communication, and instant messages 2. Technology systems - learning about the computer system e.g. CPU, RAM, storage, GPUs, and how data is carried between components in a PC 3. Software development - you will learn the basic principles of computer programming and create your own program 4. Building a personal computer - this is a really good way to better understand how computers work and to develop the skills needed to build and maintain technology systems. Additional units will include a digital portfolio, giving you the opportunity to showcase work on your website, creating an interactive website, creating a computer network and making it secure, and database development.
Standard entry to this course requires a GCSE in both English and Maths at grade 3 (D) or above is required or equivalent Functional Skills Level 1 in both English and maths. Additionally, this course requires one reference and it’s desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. Applications from students who have a level 1 ICT/IT Diploma will be considered. If you have a real interest in ICT and are currently working on any of the subjects that we will be covering, we would welcome an application.
Assessments will consist of two externally assessed exams which will be sat around January and the second exam around April/May. Additionally, internally assessed coursework is to be completed throughout the academic year.

You may have to top up your printing credits during the year to print your workout. Trip fees will be payable during your course as and when the trips are organised.
Apply online via the College website, or if your school uses the Positive Steps @16 (PS16) application system please apply through this and speak to your careers advisor if you are unsure. You will need details of your qualifications and employment history, a reference, and a personal statement to complete your application. Once your application has been successfully processed, you will be sent a conditional offer and be invited to a Welcome Event at the College to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
