This qualification has been designed for people in work or looking for work. After completing the course, you will have the knowledge and skills to work safely and recognise and deal with hazards in the workplace. It also provides you with knowledge of the basic health and safety practices essential in the workplace. It is appropriate for all levels of staff.
All employees have a duty to take care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your actions at work. Employees must co-operate with their employers and co-workers to help everyone meet their legal requirements.
You will achieve a nationally-recognised qualification in health and safety with this course.
This course takes just six hours (one day). It runs on a roll-on roll-off basis with regular start dates.
What You'll Learn
These include roles and responsibilities of employees and employers, how risk assessments contribute to health and safety, how to identify and control risks from common workplace hazards and procedures for responding accidents and incidents in the workplace.
As part of this award you will learn:
• To understand the importance of following health and safety procedures
• To know key rights and responsibilities relating to health and safety
• To have a basic awareness of potential hazards and the conditions which afford risk
• To identify safe practices and protective equipment.
This course is assessed via knowledge multiple choice exam.
Students need to be working at entry level 3 or above for literacy skills but we welcome students who can demonstrate a relevant understanding of spoken and written English.
Learners in receipt of JSA / ESA or Universal Credit can ask to be referred by their JCP Work Coach for this programme.
How you will be assessed
The assessment is through a 40-minute e-assessment consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions.

This course is free to learners in receipt of JSA / ESA / or Universal Credit.
