This apprenticeship programme will put into practice your skills in shampooing and conditioning hair, cutting using a range of techniques, styling and finishing across a variety of looks and colouring and lightening hair for ladies. You will work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair and will be required to carry out consultations with clients and demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with the role. In addition, it is important you are able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills. An apprenticeship is a job with training. You will be employed at least 30 hours a week, with 80% of your working hours in your day-to-day role, and the remaining 20% of your time engaged in training or study. By enquiring about this apprenticeship you are not applying for a specific apprenticeship role. For current vacancies please take a look at the apprenticeship vacancies page.
The Hair Professional Apprenticeship programme will require you to develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours in a professional environment and achieve a series of standards to prove your competence. You will build your knowledge of hair industry practices and principles as well as hair cutting and styling techniques for all hair types, washing, shampoo, drying and other key skills needed for salons.
You will develop your experience in using specialist hair grooming materials and tools, specialist hairdressing skills and your understanding of health and safety requirements and legislation. In addition, you will expand your communication skills including front of house meetings and greetings and building rapport with clients.
Before taking their end-point assessment, apprentices must achieve level 2 English and maths (equivalent to GCSEs at grades A* to C or 4-9). We have an extensive support package available, including college attendance to functional skills classes and an online teaching and learning platform, which guides learners from an initial and a diagnostic assessment, through to being exam ready.
On-programme is the learning phase for you to pick up the skills, knowledge and behaviours set in each standard. You need to complete 20% off-the-job training during the on-programme phase of the apprenticeship. You can track and monitor the 20% through our e-portfolio. On program assessment includes: 1. Regular assessment (involving employer and training provider) 2. Development of a portfolio demonstrating learning and development activities with application in the workplace. 3. Completion of Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals End Point Assessment End-point assessment (EPA) is the final stage that you go through to complete your apprenticeship.
