Course Overview

The course is at St Margaret’s Campus running every Friday 13:00-15:30 for 9 weeks.
This is a hobby course and is designed as an introduction to the skills required to make new garments or alterations to garments. It is a short course and you work specifically on one project decided by you.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

The sessions are run as small workshop groups and the tutor will provide you with 1:1 support to enable you to complete your garment. Topics covered will depend on what you are working on. Pattern cutting, pleats, hems, zips and buttons could all be part of your program if needed. Complete beginners are welcomed and will be shown how to use a sewing machine and follow a simple pattern.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements other than being over 19 and having an interest in garment making.

How you will be assessed

At the start of your course you will decide with your tutor what your project will be. There are no assessments, exams or coursework. This is a practical course.

Tuition Fees (16-18): £0.00

Tuition Fees (19+): £80.00

Additional Costs

The cost of the course is £90.00.
However you will not be required to pay a fee for this course if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits:
Universal Credit
JSA or ESA (Employment and Support Allowance Work Related Action Group)

There will be no fees if you earn less than £17.004.
