Course Overview

This course is designed specifically for those who have already made the transition from full-time education into further education. If you are a learner with college experience or through another alternative route this course is ideal for you.

You will also be able to take part in enrichment activities and volunteering experiences to help you to develop further your work, vocational and independent living skills.

This course supports you in further developing your English and maths qualifications at an appropriate level.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

You will continue to study and improve your English and maths at a level that is right for you
You will take part in our engaging programme of practical and vocational sessions based both within the college and the local area, these include animal care, how to look after your garden, jam factory, my community and my work skills.

During the first half term you will take an assessment, where you will have the opportunity to sample different sessions to find which sessions challenge and develop your own individual strengths and development goals.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, but you will need to complete an application form, submit satisfactory references and come for an interview. During your interview, you will meet a member of our team who will give you the opportunity to talk about your future aspirations and discuss any support needs you require.

We will need to see your learning disability assessment or your Education Health and Care plan (EHCP).

How you will be assessed

There are no formal assessment criteria, however regular attendance on all your college days is a necessity and we expect you to maintain an attendance rate of 90%.

Course and Career progression

At the end of the course, you will be invited to a review where your progress and aspirations are discussed. Subject to satisfactory attendance and progress you will have the opportunity to apply to the Future Pathways Progression year 3 course within supported learning that will help you to further develop your independent living and vocational skills.

You will also have the opportunity to apply to further courses within the College that match your future aspirations or work-based courses within supported learning. Throughout your time on the course, you will have regular opportunities to meet with your key worker to discuss additional support and development needs.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview, then you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol upon your chosen course of study. You will also be able to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.

For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short learner details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
