Furniture manufacturers and cabinet makers are based in a workshop and produce products such as cabinets, fitted wardrobes, retail items, general furniture, and office furniture. When producing products for domestic and commercial clients, they use traditional woodworking tools as well as specialised power or hand tools for cutting, shaping, smoothing and finishing. An apprenticeship is a job with training. You will be employed at least 30 hours a week, with 80% of your working hours in your day-to-day role, and the remaining 20% of your time engaged in training or study.
On completion of this apprenticeship, workers will be able to: - Work safely and be aware of key health, safety and welfare issues. - Plan and carry out their work to commercial standards of quality and speed. - Move, handle and store resources, such as materials and timber components, complying with relevant legislation guidance. - Interpret and follow verbal and written work instructions from trade supervisors and site managers. - Select the required materials to carry out the work, such as correct timber, tools and fixings. - Access, interpret and use drawings and specifications to carry out their work.
Carry out a range of job tasks including drawing, measuring, marking out, fitting, finishing, positioning and securing. Produce setting out details for the manufacture of bespoke products. - Mark out timber from setting out details for the manufacture of bespoke products. - Create, fit and assemble components to manufacture of bespoke products. - Use, maintain and store specific architectural joinery tools and equipment, such as marking and testing tools, power tools and hand tools.
End-point assessment (EPA) is the final stage that an apprentice goes through to complete their apprenticeship. The apprentice must show their learning to an independent end-point assessor and the grades available are distinction, pass or fail. - Interview discussion - Practical assessment - knowledge test
Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn in all practical sessions.
