Course Overview
This course is exclusively for UHL/LPT employees.
As an employee of UHL or LPT, you have the opportunity to undertake a Functional Skills Maths qualification at Level 1 and level 2 .
Functional Skills Maths Level 1 and 2 are delivered over 5 weeks. This is an intensive course and you will be required to attend all delivered sessions, one day per week. This can be through classroom, face to face delivery or alternatively Online Microsoft TEAMS delivery. Guided independent learning will be a feature of this course.
What You'll Learn
Year 1
At Level 1 and 2 skills learnt include being able to recognise how everyday situations can be represented using maths. You will learn how to calculate with fractions, decimals and percentages, how to create tables and charts, how to use metric measurement and how to work out averages, amongst other things.
You will develop mathematical tools and operations; be able to apply these procedures appropriately to a situation or problem; be able to interpret results and consider the accuracy and conclusions to be drawn from this information. Assessment will be by an exam.
Entry Requirements
No prior qualifications required.
Completion of a skills check to demonstrate a minimum current skills level of Level 1 or evidence of prior achievement of a Level 1 maths qualification
How you will be assessed
Exam – 1hr 55mins
The exam is made up of a non-calculator (25mins) and a calculator section (90mins)

Course and Career progression
Completion of a Level 1 and 2 Functional Skills Maths qualification may enable progression on to apprenticeship training within UHL/LPT
In addition, the achievement of this qualification may provide the opportunity for further progression within the workplace allowing upward movement within the job bandings.
In addition, you will be more confident with everyday maths and supporting others with their maths skills.
