Course Overview

This is a supported online learning course which is available all year (50 weeks of the year including non-term times). You will need to be committed to complete approximately six hours of learning, which could be one whole day or split over a few days. Days and times to suit your personal commitments, and the learning is taken at your own pace and you only complete the assessment once you feel ready.

The aim of this accredited qualification is to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of how to work in the food manufacturing industry safely. You will know that food safety is the responsibility of everyone involved in the storage, preparation, processing, packing and handling of food.

If you are successful you will gain a nationally recognised level 2 Award in Food Safety for Manufacturing (RQF) which has been developed to protect customers, brand reputation and profits.

Particularly beneficial for you if you are 19+ and looking at starting up a new business, managing others or working for a voluntary organisation in any environment that manufactures food in high volumes.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

During this online course, you will learn about the following topics:
1) Know the correct methods of storage for different food types
2) Understand how to prepare food to the standard required following organisational and government guidelines
3) Understand how to process food in a safe way
4) Understand about Health safety issues relevant to the processing and packaging of food
5) Understand how to handle fresh and processed food to maintain food standards

Entry Requirements

This is a level 2 course and there are no formal entry requirements, however, a reasonable level of literacy is expected i.e. you can write and speak to make yourself understood. It would be useful to be able to use a keyboard although support is available.

How you will be assessed

You will complete short mock tests following completion of the learning for each unit and when confident and following a discussion with your tutor, will complete a multiple choice online exam.

Course and Career progression

On completion of this award, your tutor will be able to provide advice and guidance on other online courses, distance learning courses or classroom-based programmes. These might include CV writing, interview skills, Customer Service level 2 Certificate and other short Health and Safety vocational programmes.

This qualification will support individuals to gain employment by improving their confidence by gaining new skills and qualifications.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements of the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course.
