Course Overview

The aim of this course is to provide you with an understanding of sustainability and minimising environmental impact. This qualification introduces key issues in sustainability, raising awareness of the topic and encouraging to consider your role in helping to make informed choices, whilst identifying the local and global benefits of sustainable communities.

This course is particularly beneficial if you are 19+ and looking to work in the environmental sustainability sector including waste management, construction sector and other businesses that must comply with current environmental legislation.

This is a supported online learning course which is all year (50 weeks of the year including non-term times). You will work in our IT workshop and study the units that make up this award, which could be one whole day or split over a few days. The course is designed so the days and times suit your personal commitments, and the learning is taken at your own pace and complete the assessment once you feel ready.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

During this Environmental sustainability Award level 2, you will develop your knowledge and understanding across the following areas:

1) Concepts in sustainability – examining three key strands of sustainable development and their relationship.
2) Importance of natural resources
3) Global environmental impacts – understanding the effects of agriculture and industry on our planet and how they can be reduced.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, however, a reasonable level of literacy is expected i.e. you can write and speak to make yourself understood. It would be useful to be able to use a keyboard although support is available.

How you will be assessed

You will complete short mock tests following completion of the learning for each unit and when you feel confident and following a discussion with the tutor, you will then complete a multiple choice online exam.

You will not be required to pay a fee for this course if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits:
Universal Credit
JSA or ESA (Employment and Support Allowance Work Related Action Group)

Upon completion, your tutor will be able to provide advice and guidance on other online or distance learning courses, or classroom-based programmes. What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements of the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course.
