DISTANCE Course Overview
This course covers all you need to know about written English and prepares you for the Edexcel GCSE (9-1) post -16 resit qualification.
The course allows you to get fully prepared for your exam in June 2023. With a dedicated tutor throughout the course, you will work module by module and complete assessments to fully prepare you for the exam.
There will also be the opportunity to join an online forum to chat and get support from other students who are studying the same qualification online.
This virtual learning environment offers you 24/7 access to your study materials along with paper-based copies if this suits you better. Please note this course does not offer virtual sessions, students work on their own and submit work to their tutor weekly.
If you are aged 16 to 18, you will be enrolled on a study programme. This will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven’t already achieved a grade 4 or above.
You will take part in activities that help you to develop your personal skills, such as building your character and confidence. This will help you to live well and move into your chosen career.
If you are 16-19 years old these activities will be timetabled as will work experience and placement. You can also choose to take part in other activities.
For other age groups, activities will be tailored to your needs.
What You'll Learn
Year 1
You will read a variety of high-quality challenging texts from the 19th, 20th, and 21st century, in preparation for responding to unseen texts in the exam.
Throughout the course, you will develop the skills of interpretation and analysis and use what you have learned about different text styles to inform your own transactional and creative writing.
Entry Requirements
You will sit an entry assessment to determine your suitability for the course.
How you will be assessed
There is a spoken language assessment that is completed internally. You will then sit two external exams in June 2023.

This is ideal for anyone who wishes to improve on their previous grade or sit a GCSE for the first time. Earning this qualification can also help with your progression to University or within your chosen career.
You will also build up your written English to support your learning on other courses and speaking elements will have a positive impact on your presentation skills.
