Course Overview

This course is only for DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) customers asked to join Leicester College English classes by their DWP Work Coach. If you have not been asked to join Leicester College by DWP please apply using other ESOL area course codes found on our website.

This course is for students whose first language is not English. You will be able to study Reading, Writing or Speaking Listening at either Entry One, Entry Two, Entry Three, Level One or Level Two. This course is available at various times of the week and at different places for you to study across the city. You may also be able to take an accredited exam at the end of the course.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

This course follows the Adult ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Core Curriculum helping students to operate and achieve or work towards a Reading, Writing and/or Speaking Listening qualification at national ESOL standards.
You will learn how to improve your English language skills using various techniques and improve your employability skills.
This course is part-time so it can fit around your current learning or personal commitments.

Entry Requirements

You will have been asked to join an English course by your DWP Work Coach.
There are no formal entry requirements.
You will be able to apply online. You will also have an initial assessment interview to ascertain if you are operating at the required language level.

How you will be assessed

You will be required to take or work towards an accredited exam at the end of the course either Entry One, Entry Two, Entry Three, Level One or Level Two

Course and Career progression

Your tutor will advise you on progression. You can progress to further study a higher level ESOL course or another course at Leicester College. You will have the opportunity to study at a higher level or to take classes in a different mode. Careers Information, advice and guidance is also available at Leicester College to help you with your choice in employment or further study.

What Happens Next

Once your form is complete you will be called by a member of the ESOL staff team to talk to you about your choice of course, the place you would like to study and your level of English.
