Course Overview

Covering all aspects of domestic and commercial installation, this one-year course will develop your practical electrical installation skills. Aimed at adults (19+) the course is a stepping stone to level 3 which is the required level to be recognised as a qualified tradesperson. You will have access to our industry-standard facilities and expert teaching to support your studies.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

There are five units throughout this course including health and safety in building services; principles of electrical science; electrical installations; installation of wiring systems; and understanding how to communicate with others within building services engineering. The units are achieved by both practice and theory study. Practical installations of both domestic and commercial installs will be covered.

Entry Requirements

You will need to demonstrate evidence of an appropriate level of practical ability/skills. We normally require four GCSEs at grade 3/D or above including English and maths and/or a full level 1 qualification in an electrical discipline. Candidates without these qualifications who can demonstrate academic ability to succeed at level 2 will also be considered. All applicants will be required to complete an initial assessment to determine suitability for this course.
The level 2 Electrical Evening programme is for adults only (19+).

How you will be assessed

You will complete continuous assessments across various units and practical work. As part of this course you will need to complete a two day summative practical assessment which will be carried out during weekdays towards the end of the summer term. You will need to be available for this end assessment and will need to book time off work.

Additional Costs

You will be required to purchase some basic equipment to support your learning and protect yourself during normal working practice in the workshop. A working partnership is in place so that you will be directed through this system during the application process. There may be an additional examination registration fee of approximately £155.00 if applicable. Re-sits for applicable examinations are chargeable.

Course and Career progression

Successful candidates will be encouraged to apply for the level 3 NVQ Diploma or enter employment as an apprentice. Candidates will be encouraged to undertake the inspection and testing qualifications along with the current regulations BS7671 18th edition. Candidates can, on completion of the level 3 course, apply to register with a certification scheme.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.
