This programme is designed to equip you with the latest skills and knowledge needed to carry out installations, servicing, maintenance and inspection and testing within the electrical industry.

What You'll Learn
You will cover a range of areas including health and safety and working in the electro-technical environments; science and principles; AC/DC electrical supplies and generation; inspection, testing and commissioning to industry standard; fault finding and diagnostics to industry standard.
Additionally, you will learn about certification and how to complete certificates, which may be essential to your job position in this industry.
Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance at your last place of work or study. A GCSE in both English and maths at 4 (grade C) or above is required, plus two other GCSEs: one of which must be a science subject.
Additionally, you will need to have successfully completed a level 2 Electrical Installation Programme.
Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications, but you must have previously successfully completed a level 2 Electrical Installation programme.
This course is for adults only, aged 19 and over.
How you will be assessed
Assessments will be both written and practical in the following subjects: electrical principles and science; environmental technology; electrical fault diagnosis and rectification; inspection and testing; and design.
There are two assessments externally set which include an assignment and an examination. Additionally, you will complete practical work for this course.
As part of this course you will be expected to attend up to 5 additional days.
Employer involvement in the delivery and/or assessment of this qualification is essential for all candidates and will be externally quality assured.

You will be required to purchase some basic equipment to support your learning and protect you in the workshop. There may be an additional examination registration fee of approximately £155.00 if applicable. If you need to re-sit your examinations this will be an additional charge.

If you are aged 19 or over there is no government funding available for this course. However you may be eligible to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan for the course fee.
Course and Career progression
You can progress on to the NVQ route if you are in employment. You are encouraged to undertake the current IET wiring regulations, further inspection and testing courses along with a level 4 design course to further advance your skill and employment opportunities. You can also continue learning on a Higher National Certificate at level 4 in either engineering services or construction.
