Course Overview
Our four week course gives you the opportunity to achieve the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Green Card.
As a contractors and/or major house builders you will be required to hold a valid CSCS card to work onsite.
On successful completion of the course, you will gain various qualifications in Introduction to Construction and Building, Introduction to Environmental Sustainability in Building and Construction Certificate, Employability Certificate level 1, Health and Safety in a Construction Environment Award level 1, Mental Health Awareness and Personal Safety Awareness.
If you pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test, you will then receive a print off which states you passed and your CITB registration number. With this, the College will pay for your CSCS Green Card.
You can do this course with or without experience in the construction sector to not only gain the Health and Safety qualifications needed, but to update your skills and qualifications to support your applications when seeking employment in the construction industry.
It is offered at regular intervals during 50 weeks of the year, including non-term times (closed two weeks of Christmas).
You will need to be committed to complete the whole course.
What You'll Learn
Year 1
During this course, you will take part in a variety of different learning activities including supported online learning, classroom teaching, discussion and research. How our course is deliver is outlined below:
Online learning:
– Health and Safety in a Construction Environment Award level 1
– Health and Safety in the Workplace Award level 1
– Employment Rights and Responsibilities Award level 1
– Principles of Building Construction, Information, Communication Award level 1
– Mental Health Awareness Award level 1
– Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Green Card
Classroom based:
– Managing Your Health at Work Award level 1
– Careers in Construction Award level 1
– Conflict Resolution Award level 1
– Personal Social Development Certificate level 1 (including: interview skills, CV writing)
On successful completion of the course, Leicester College will pay for your Green CSCS card.
Entry Requirements
To enrol onto the course you will be required to have a minimum of Entry level 3 in English. If you have any concerns regarding your literacy level, please contact us.
How you will be assessed
When attending classroom based sessions, you will complete a variety of short practical and written tasks that will be formally assessed by your tutor to create a portfolio of written evidence. When completing online qualifications, you will complete short mock tests following completion of the learning for each unit and when you are confident, you will then complete the multiple choice online exam.

Additional Costs
The course is FREE to anyone unemployed and looking for work and in receipt of qualifying benefits, therefore, Leicester College will pay for your exam fees and your CSCS card.

Course and Career progression
On completion of this award, your tutor will be able to provide advice and guidance on other online or distance learning courses, or classroom-based courses. These might include CV writing, interview skills, customer service skills and other short vocational courses. This qualification will support you to gain employment by improving your confidence.

What Happens Next
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements of the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course.
