Course Overview

The Higher National qualifications in Construction Management are aimed at those wanting to continue their education through applied learning. Your studies will cover a wide-ranging spectrum of the construction and the built environment sector.

In addition to the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin the construction and the built environment sector, this qualification will give you experience in the sector and prepare you for further study or training.

Then after you have completed the course, you can pursue or advance your career in construction and the built environment.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

Building upon the skills and knowledge learnt during your Higher National Certificate (HNC), you will then complete the following units as part of the Higher National Diploma (HND) year of your programme:

– Group project, set by the Pearson exam board
– Personal Professional Development
– Project Management
– Advanced Construction Drawing Detailing
– Construction Technology for Complex Building Projects
– Plus three optional units, to be decided by Programme Lead dependent on student demand and expertise to deliver.

Entry Requirements

This course is aimed at students who currently have a level 4 HNC qualification on the Construction Management pathway (i.e. A2s, extended/subsidiary diploma, Access to HE) equivalent to 32 UCAS Points, or a strong portfolio of work.

Due to the nature of this programme, you may be invited to attend an interview. Where necessary other means of interview (i.e. telephone, web-based, CD/DVD) can be arranged.

How you will be assessed

The programme assessment will include an externally set piece of work, the internally set units at mandatory, specialist and optional will be set and assessed internally through a range of mediums There is a range of assessment methods that can be utilised, such as:
– presentations, written reports, accounts, surveys
– log books, production diaries
– role play
– observations and reflections on practical tasks or performance
– production of visual or audio materials, artefacts, products and specimens
– peer and self-assessment
– time-constrained assessments

Course and Career progression

The level 5 Higher National Diploma allows you to specialise by committing to specific career paths and progression routes to degree-level study with the Leicester College BSc(Hons) Construction Management degree programme. In addition, the qualifications may provide links to industry-related and employer-supported apprenticeship schemes that can provide further opportunities for enhanced employability. The course provides the opportunity to progress into employment within construction management.
