Course Overview

The course is for adults aged 19+. This computing for beginners course covers learning Office packages to include: word processing, spreadsheets, using the internet, email, and basic computing skills. The course will be studied in the classroom with high specification machines. You will cover all the basic skills needed in office applications. This is a good starting point in which to become good at using office packages. This course is designed for anyone who wanted to acquire some office package skills to apply for an admin office role.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

Word processing will cover formatting and using the ribbon menu to compose letters. In spreadsheets, you will learn how to use formulas and sheets as well as filters. Other modules will be using the Internet, email, and basic computing skills. It is also a course for users with little or no prior computer knowledge. We will teach basics moving slowly toward more advanced topics like spreadsheets and databases.

Entry Requirements

Some familiarity with using a computer with a mouse and menus is required so it’s useful to have some knowledge.
English language at level 1 is also a minimum requirement.

How you will be assessed

Assessment is done by a variety of different methods such as exercises and practical labs.

Course and Career progression

Once you have completed this course there is progression to level 1 courses and other course like the ECDL (the European Driving License) which is an international computer literacy certification. The ECDL also has an advanced certification. With the basic skills you will gain, there may be a possibility of getting employment in the office environment.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.

For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short student details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
