Course Overview

The course runs from Freemen’s Park Campus, each Thursday, 5.30pm – 8.00pm for 9 weeks.

During this cake decorating and sugarcraft course you will learn how to work with sugar and icing to create cake toppers and sugarcraft masterpieces. You can enrol as many times so you are able to hone your skills or just enjoy your hobby with people with similar interests.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

Each session looks at different skills and techniques from covering a cake for complete beginners to making sugar flowers on wires. This course aims to teach you all the important areas of cake decoration including working with buttercream, celebration cakes, marzipan modeling, and party cupcakes, as well as building your aptitude and confidence in basic kitchen skills.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements other than being over 19 and interested in cake decorating and sugar crafts.

How you will be assessed

At the start of the course, you will decide with your tutor your personal targets for the course. Your targets will be unique to you. If you have met your targets by the end of the course, you will receive a certificate of attendance.

Tuition Fees (19+): £90.00

Additional Costs

The cost of the course is £90.00. However, you will not be required to pay a fee for this course if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits:

– Universal Credit
– JSA or ESA (Employment and Support Allowance Work Related Action Group)

There will be no fees for Home students if you earn less than £20,319.

Course and Career progression

On completion, you may wish to enrol again to practice and develop your skills further. Alternatively, you can also progress onto a full-time catering course or explore our wide range of part-time courses. Please feel free to ask your tutor for advice and guidance on the progression routes available to you.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to come into College if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.

For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short student details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
