This course provides an excellent route to higher education for adults who have the ability to benefit from higher education but have not had the opportunity to do so. It will prepare you for study at degree level, so if you would like to go to university but left school without the qualifications you need, then the Access to Higher Education Business course could be an excellent choice for you. In this course, you will study aspects of business, management, marketing, finance, accounting, law, English, and academic study skills. If you are aged 19, you will be enrolled on a study programme. This will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will take part in activities that help you to develop your personal skills, such as building your character and confidence. This will help you to live well and move into your chosen career.
The course runs over one year, and you will be expected to attend classes three days per week. During this time you will study a variety of business-related topics, including business, management, marketing, finance, and law. You will also develop your academic English and report writing skills, and other study skills that you will need for higher-level study, including research and referencing skills, presentation skills, and IT skills.
Applicants should be aged 19 plus by no later than 31 August prior to starting the course. You will hold 5 GCSEs, including English and maths GCSE at grade 4/C or above. In exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to study one of these qualifications alongside your Access course. One reference from your previous place of study or work will also be required. It would be preferable if one of the GCSEs is related to your chosen course of study. In order for you to progress on to an undergraduate degree at a British university, it is essential to have achieved a minimum of a grade C (4/5) in English and Maths. It is your responsibility to check the GCSE grade profiles of the universities that you are interested in applying to and to attend a number of university open days.
You will be assessed via projects, assignments, presentations and exams. This course is mainly assessed through coursework, and you will be required to submit around 30 assignments during the year. You will also have a personal tutor assigned to help you throughout the course.
- Material fee: £40
- Tuition fee: £3022
- Total fees: £3062
There are no course fees if you are under 24 on 31st August of the year in which you start the course AND you do not possess a full Level 3 qualification. If (a) you are under 24 and already have a full level 3 qualification, OR (b) you are over 24 (irrespective of any qualifications you have achieved), then course fees are applicable. However, you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover these.
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to come into College if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study. For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short student details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
