Course Overview

This course provides an excellent route to higher education for adults who have the ability to benefit from higher education but have not had the opportunity to do so. It will prepare you for study at degree level, so if you would like to go to university but left school without the qualifications you need, then the Access to Higher Education Business course could be an excellent choice for you.

On this course, you will study aspects of business, management, finance, accounting, law, English and academic study skills. To enhance your employability skills, additional short courses will be delivered as part of this programme in subjects such as equality and diversity and AAT Book-keeping level 1, with no additional costs incurred.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

The course runs over one year, and you will be expected to attend classes on three days per week. During this time you will study a variety of business-related topics, including business, management, marketing, finance and law.

You will also develop your academic English and report-writing skills, and other study skills that you will need for higher-level study, including research and referencing skills, presentation skills, and IT skills.

You will be assessed via projects, assignments, presentations and exams. You will also have a personal tutor assigned to help you throughout the course.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should be aged 19 plus by no later than the 31 August prior to starting the course. You will need to hold English and maths GCSEs at grade 4 or above depending on the degree course you wish to apply for. In exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to study one of these qualifications alongside your access course. One reference from your previous place of study or work will also be required. It would be preferable if one of the GCSEs is related to your chosen course of study.

In order for you to progress on to an undergraduate degree at a British university, it is essential to have achieved a minimum of a grade C (4/5) in English and maths. It is your responsibility to check the GCSE grade profiles of the universities that you are interested in applying to and to attend a number of university open days.

How you will be assessed

You will be assessed by projects, assignments, presentations and exams.
