This is a two-year full-time university-level course awarded by De Montfort University (DMU). Over three terms per year, the programme brings together the practical and theoretical elements of management, marketing and finance and leads to a Higher National Diploma (HND) award. The overarching aim of the Business HND is to support students to acquire and develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours necessary to work effectively, confidently, and responsibly within a wide range of business organisations. It provides students with an excellent grounding in all aspects of business, incorporating knowledge from a range of disciplines such as accounting, economics, finance, human resource management, marketing, and sustainability. Whilst this course is taught at Leicester College, the diploma is affiliated to De Montfort University and with this you can enjoy the benefits of DMU's extensive library and student union at its campus in Leicester city centre.
By the end of your first year you will be able to: - Demonstrate a basic understanding of a range of business concepts, theories, and a basic ability to interpret them in a structured business management context. - Develop and apply your own perspective to your studies to deal with uncertainty and complexity in generating business management solutions. - Systematically acquire subject discipline knowledge on the institutional context of business management. - Articulate ideas, arguments, and conclusions in written and oral form. - Develop and apply values, skills, knowledge, and behaviours that will enable you to contribute to the development of a just, peaceful, and sustainable world. You’ll be provided with an excellent grounding in all aspects of business which will give you the ability to critically evaluate organisations in terms of their key areas of business management, structures, functions, and processes. Students have also taken the opportunity to secure year-long placements through the DMU Works careers and employability team. Examples of companies they have previously secured placements with include BMW, Jaguar Land Rover and Siemens.
By the end of your second year you'll be able to: - Evaluate organisations in terms of their key areas of business management, structures, functions and processes and the relationships between these. - Demonstrate competence by identifying and critically analysing a range of business concepts, theories, and research in evaluating issues and identifying priority actions. - Develop and apply your own perspective to your studies to deal with uncertainty and complexity in generating business management solutions. - Systematically acquire subject discipline knowledge and evaluate the institutional context of business management. - Clearly and confidently articulate ideas, arguments, and conclusions in written and oral form to specialist and non-specialist audiences. - Develop and apply values, skills, knowledge, and behaviours that will enable them to contribute to the development of a just, peaceful, and sustainable world. After your second year, you may wish to continue your studies, in the first instance, upon successful completion of your HND continue to 'top-up' to a full BA (Hons) Degree in Business and Management (and further BA (Hons) options) via a third year of study at the main DMU campus.
