The Business Extended Certificate is designed for those students who wish to progress into higher education or employment and at the same time improve their English or maths qualifications. This is a one-year study programme and equivalent to one A level which could also suit applicants who wish to top-up UCAS points for university. You will learn how to develop a Marketing Campaign, Manage Events, explore the Business World and gain an overview of personal and business Finance. The course is designed to provide you with the opportunity to study a wide range of business subjects, giving you employment and progression choices. Alternatively, you can move onto our full Diploma for a further year and achieve two A levels overall allowing greater opportunities within higher education and employment.
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven’t already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
What You'll Learn
During the course, you will study a total of four units that will provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to progress onto the BTEC level 3 diploma, enter the workplace or start an apprenticeship. Some of the units you will study are: Exploring Business, Developing a marketing plan and personal and business finance.
Standard entry to this course requires one reference, 90% attendance at your last place of work or study, and five GCSEs grade 4, including either English and maths at (or Functional Skills level 2).
Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.
How you will be assessed
There are a variety of assessment methods which include report writing, Exams PowerPoint presentations, discussions, live projects, and role-play assessment.

The course will involve induction activities and a number of course-related external visits for which a fee is incurred.

If you are aged 19 or over there is no government funding available for this course. However you may be eligible to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan for the course fee.

What Happens Next
Apply online via UCAS Progress or the College website. You will need details of your qualifications, a reference, and a personal statement to complete your application. Once your application has been successfully processed, you will be sent a conditional offer and be invited to a welcome event at the College to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
