Course Overview
BPEC Gas Foundation is a bespoke service and maintenance training programme. The engineer at the end of this training will be suitably skilled to undertake a Core Gas Safety Assessment (separate course). Installation skills will be gained during training but the substantive skills will be learned onsite with a Gas Safe operative (provided by learner).
This is a full cost course. There is no fee remission available and you cannot apply for an advanced learner loan to pay for your fees.
What You'll Learn
Year 1
General gas safety training and practical training, covering the installation and maintenance of boilers, cookers, fires and water heaters. A period of on-the-job training is required to enable progression to ACS assessments in order to become Gas Safe registered. Undertaking a work placement (with a Gas Safe registered operative) is an essential part of the course. This ensures that that onsite learning is built into a portfolio, coupled with in college training to enable the learner a Core Gas Safety assessment (separate course) and become Gas safe Registered.
Entry Requirements
This programme is for adult learners, the awarding organisation BPEC (British Plumbing Employers Council) has a mandatory requirement of working alongside a qualified and registered Gas Engineer. Learners will also need to be able to study at L2/3 due to the technical discipline of the course. Being able to read and digest technical texts is a key part of the learning programme.

Units will be assessed by the tutor and there is a final assessment paper and practical assessment.

Course and Career progression
ACS CCN1 and appliance assessments. You will be registered as a Gas Safe operative. Domestic gas installation, maintenance or repair. Possible progression could also be to liquid petroleum gas or commercial and industrial gas engineer. Self employment is a route many learners who complete the qualification take or employment within the Gas industry.
What Happens Next
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.
For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short learner details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
