Course Overview

This basic IT course is ideal for beginners and will help you to increase your knowledge, skills and confidence with using computers. The programme is classroom based, usually delivered over five days and offered year-round (50 weeks of the year including non-term times).

As an accredited qualification, this is ideal for anyone returning to work after a period of unemployment and wanting to build skills that all employers value.

You should be committed to attending 9am-4pm daily for the duration of the course, however, if this is difficult, please discuss this with your tutor.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

During this course, you will take part in a variety of computer-based learning activities, such as:

1) Action planning for personal success

2) Basic computer and IT skills

3) Exploring a CV and its applications

4) Writing a CV

5) Managing your time

6) Internet safety for IT users

7) Researching and finding information using IT

Entry Requirements

This is an entry level course and although there are no formal entry requirements, a reasonable level of literacy is expected i.e. you can write and speak to make yourself understood. It is also useful to be able to use a keyboard and mouse independently.

How you will be assessed

You will complete a variety of short practical and written tasks that will be formally assessed by your tutor to create a portfolio of evidence.

You will not be required to pay a fee for this course if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits:
Universal Credit
JSA or ESA (Employment and Support Allowance Work Related Action Group)
low waged.
Evidence of benefits will be required on the application.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements of the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course.
