Course Overview
This is an entry-level, five-day course which is available most weeks of the year (including non-term times) which will develop your confidence when using a computer and other forms of media e.g. mobile phone applications (apps).
The sessions are based around a fun team working activity in a safe and supportive environment to give you hands-on experience to build up your confidence. You will gain an accredited award which is useful evidence to show employers that you can use a computer keyboard and have basic IT skills. Particularly if you are returning to work after a period of unemployment who wish to improve or update your computer skills.
You will need to be committed to attending 9am – 4pm although if personal commitments restrict your availability, we can discuss alternatives.
What You'll Learn
Year 1
During this five day course, you will take part in the following learning activities and learn about:
1) Online applications
2) Managing your Universal Credit account online
3) CV writing – you will leave the course with a new CV
4) Job search online
5) Emailing
6) Scanning documents
7) Using a phone application
8) Support with online services such as housing, health, leisure and money saving
9) Support with smartphones or tablets – If you have one then you can practice on your own devices
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, however, a reasonable level of literacy is expected i.e. you can write and speak to make yourself understood.
How you will be assessed
You will complete a variety of short practical and written tasks that will be formally assessed by your tutor to create a portfolio of written evidence.

You will not be required to pay a fee for this course if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits:
Universal Credit
JSA or ESA (Employment and Support Allowance Work Related Action Group)

Course and Career progression
On completion of this award, your tutor will be able to provide advice and guidance on other online or distance learning courses, or classroom-based programmes. These might include CV writing, interview skills, customer service skills and other short vocational programmes. This qualification will support you to gain employment by improving your confidence.

What Happens Next
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements of the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course.
